AI in Mental Health Care

Overview

The rapid development and deployment of AI tools in mental health care, from chatbots to advanced diagnostic systems, raises pressing questions about their safety, efficacy, and broader societal effects. These tools are already widely available and growing in use, promising to help address gaps in mental health care access and offer support for conditions like anxiety and depression. Without robust oversight, however, ineffective or unsafe solutions could flood the market, raising new challenges rather than alleviating existing ones.

AI in Mental Health Care is an 18-month project from the American Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Arts and Sciences that convenes interdisciplinary experts to identify the grand challenges in digital mental health, including policy recommendations for ensuring that AI and other emerging technologies shape mental health diagnosis and treatment ethically and equitably.
