John G. Hildebrand
John G. Hildebrand is Regents Professor Emeritus and former Head of the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Arizona. He earned his baccalaureate degree at Harvard University and his Ph.D. (in bio-organic chemistry) at the Rockefeller University. His research interests include chemical senses (particularly olfaction), chemical ecology, animal behavior, and vector-borne and other infectious diseases. Before moving to Arizona in 1985, he served for 16 years on the faculties of Harvard and Columbia Universities.
Hildebrand is a member of the U.S. National Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Sciences, American Philosophical Society, Brazilian Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Sciences, German National Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Sciences 'Leopoldina’, Norwegian Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Science and Letters, The World Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Sciences, and African Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Sciences. He has served as the International Secretary of the National Çï¿ûÊÓƵ of Sciences, one of the five elected officers, since 2014.
As a leader of the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ’s project on Science in the Liberal Arts Curriculum, Hildebrand co-edited Science and the Educated American: A Core Component of Liberal Education, a volume of essays published by the Çï¿ûÊÓƵ.
