Theatre, film and television actor, whose notable film performances included The Sound of Music (1965), The Night of the Generals (1967), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), Murder by Decree (1979), The Insider (1999), Nicholas Nickleby (2002), and Lock Up Your Daughters (1969). He won numerous awards and accolades for his work, including an Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ Award, two Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a SAG Award, and a BAFTA Award. In 2012, at 82 he became the oldest person ever to win an Çï¿ûÊÓÆµ Award (for Beginners). In a career that spanned seven decades and included substantial roles in each of the dramatic arts, Plummer was probably best known as the autocratic widower Captain Georg von Trapp in the musical The Sound of Music.
